A Story Inside of Us All: Story – Ciaerra Watson
By: Alima Mootoo
Everybody has a story, rooted deep within them, that shapes who they are. We have all experienced things that make us stick out from the rest of the pack. The subjects of “A Story Inside of Us All” are chosen completely at random. A random number is drawn to identify a teacher at Conway High School, and then another number is drawn. The student whose name is by the selected number on that teacher’s roster is the subject of the article. To put in more general terms, a number is drawn to identify a teacher and then another number is drawn to identify the student.
This week, Ciaerra Watson was chosen. Ciaerra is a junior at Conway High School, and she told the story of the time she got expelled. She was expelled from Conway High School in the 10th grade:
“I was already under hallway supervision, meaning that someone had to watch me whenever I went somewhere. I was out of area, and the principal caught me, so I got assigned ISS for 2 days. On the first day of ISS, I went to sleep, but the teacher didn’t write me up. On the second day, I didn’t fall asleep, but I was about to so I asked to go to the bathroom. I wasn’t going to the bathroom, though – I was going downstairs to lunch. I crawled under the door and rolled so that the teacher didn’t see, but me being stupid, I didn’t realize the cameras were watching. I was given my last referral and expelled. The whole time I was at the ALT, I was called a ninja because I crawled and rolled.”
Ciaerra’s first thought when she got expelled was “damn,” and she kept denying that she did it, but then they showed her the footage. Her mom was disappointed in her and made her rake the entire lot of land she owned. From this event Ciaerra learned not to make stupid decisions when she doesn’t want to face the consequences.
